How to replace inner Tube And Tire of a BOB stroller
Every parent with a baby stroller often faces the problem of flat tubes or lacerated tire. If you are far away from home, it will be hard for you to find a mechanic. So, as a precaution, you should know how to replace a flat tube or tire of the baby stroller. Today I am going to discuss it in detail:
- A new tire and tube. (Whatever you want to replace)
- Tire levers or two flat edge tools, for example: a wide head screwdriver.
- A tire pump (Very small & handy)
- Safety glasses.
Let’s replace the damaged tire or tube. Follow the instruction below:
1. Remove the damaged wheel:
I) Rear Wheel:
A) Disengage the parking brake.
B) Open the quick release lever and remove the rear wheel.
C) If your stroller has a secondary retention button at the rear, open the quick release lever, press it down to before removing the wheel.
II) Front Wheel:
A) If you have a swivel feature, lock it forward.
B) Open the quick release lever, undo the adjusting knob in the opposite side and then remove the wheel.
2. Remove the inner tube and tire:
The damaged wheel has been separated from the stroller. Now it’s time to remove the inner tube and tire.
A) Remove the inner tube valve cap and keep it in a safe place. You will need it again.
B) Apply a crusher to pin, at the center of the valve to emanate the air in the tube.
C) Insert one edge of tire lever/flat edge tool between the tire and rim at the opposite of the valve stand. Gently pry it inverse to separate the tire from the wheel. Make sure you are not damaging the inner tube.
D) Insert the second wide edge tool about four inches apart and repeat the previous task.
E) Release the first tool and repeat the previous task at the same distance. After completing it though out the wheel, apply your hand and you will be able to separate the tire from the rim.
F) Gently put out an edge of the inner tube from the opposite side of the valve stand. Then remove it from the tire and the rim. Put out the valve from the valve hole in the rim. The inner tube has been separated.
G) Pull the tire completely from the rim which may take some force.
3. Install New Tire and Inner Tube:
A) Wipe your hand slowly through the inner part of the tire to make sure it is smooth and nothing is there to damage the tire and inner tube.
B) Place one edge of the new tire over the wheel rim. Then gently press it over the rim to adjust it in the right place. Use flat edge tool to adjust if necessary.
C) Inflate the inner tube slightly until it forms the circular shape. Keep the tube valve aligned with the valve hole and reset the inner tube inside the tire.
After the whole tube is set in between the tire and the rim, push the valve through the valve stand in the rim. Make sure the valve is pointing outside of the wheel.
D) Start from the valve stand and set the second tire edge on the wheel rim. Use your hand throughout the wheel. The very last tire edge may need the wide edge tool to replace completely. Be careful while using the flat edge tool because it may damage the new inner tube.
E) Inflate the tire according to air pressure mentioned in the tire rim. The different tire has different pressure handling capacity. Maintain the tire pressure to have a long lasting performance. Finally, replace the valve stand cap.
4. Reinstall The Wheel In The Stroller:
When the tire and tube replacement is complete and the tube is properly inflated, reinstall it in the stroller.
A) A case of the rear wheel, put the wheel back in the stroller and make sure the quick release retention device of that wheel is properly engaged.
B) In case of the front wheel, put the axis on the stand. Tight the tension adjusting knob at the opposite of the Axel and meanwhile, keep the quick release lever fixed. Tight the nut until you feel any resistance in flipping the quick release lever. The lever will be around 90 degrees from the fore plate.
C) Now put your fingers around the fore plate and palm on the quick release lever. Push the clamp lever towards the fore plate into completely closed position.
To place the quick release clamp lever properly, you need some effort and it will leave a strain in your palm.
Thus, your BOB stroller is again ready to roll. Have a safe hangout with your baby stroller.
